Cost of living is a big issue in Ireland currently. It's needs a bit more attention to highlight the challenges people face. The cost of living crisis seems to be getting worse so it is something that will likely be part of our own future challenges as adults. We want to raise awareness before it gets out of hand.
We discovered that every homeless hostel/shelter is not as safe or welcoming as it should be. In recent news we learned of the death of Ann Delaney, a nurse who was homeless and refused to go to shelters because she felt they were unsafe due to drup use and other issues.
The specific problem is the safety and security of people using homeless shelters and the lack of facillities and people to volunteer or serve due to the cost of living crisis. Three solutions are: 1). Better pay for An Garca Siochana and other public service jobs so that people might be more attracted to working in these areas. 2). Vet the people who are using the shelters and provide medical services for them. 3). Provide women only or women and children only shelters where accomodation and suitable work can be provided to support homeless families.
What solutions would you suggest to tackle the cost of living crisis and theconsequences that follow this issue? Would someone who is a business owner be open to hiring someone who experiences homelessness or addiction? How can the spaces and places in use by homeless families be improved.
