We chose to focus on this challenge because we know there is a lot of people struggling with hidden poverty in our country and worldwide. We felt that this challenge was especially relevant in todays world.
From our research we discovered that One in every nine people in Ireland lives on an income below the poverty line. That is 11.9% of the population.
Our hero is Caoimhe she is a single mother with a young son. As she has to mind her son she is only able to work three eight our shifts in a bar on minimum wage. This leaves her struggling to avoid basic necessities such as good and clothes aswell as to pay bills.
We would provide discounts on her basic necessities as although this would not completely remove the burden it would help to ease it.
A solution we are considering is an app called AirgeadAid. You apply for this app online. If you meet the requirements to use it you are sent a QR which will open your account when scanned. The main purpose of the app is to provide discounts for people on basic necessities such as food and clothes. This app will also contain a map of th shops accepting the vouchers near them, news stories about upcoming vouchers and the stores using them and the app will alos feature a budget section to help people manage their finances.
How could we make our app more accessible in general and for those with disabilities?
