The B!G Idea Dashboard > Team > Climate change – Colaiste Bhride Carnew

Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

We as a team decided to chose climate change as our challenge. We chose this topic as it is what we know the most about and we also all have an interest in the topic of climate change. We find it interesting as to how our world is changing around us and most of it is due to us and the choices we make everyday. We want to learn more about it and what we as individuals can do to help prevent or slow it down.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We have learnt lots of new things by doing this topic. From our research we have learnt that cliimate change could be irreversible by 2030,more than 1 million species face extinction, humans have already caused 1.07C of warming, two-thirds of extreme weather events in the last 20 years were influenced by humans and theseven warmest years on record have all taken place since 2015.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

1. Our hero is Save it Sue. The challenges she faces are climate change and trying to save more energy.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

That everyone around her got solar panels on their houses.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is plant more trees around. This could help our planet from taking in the carbon dioxide and keeping it from the air.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

1. What does the term ‘climate change’ mean to you? Climate change means the rising in temperatures over a long period of time. 2. What does the term ‘net-zero carbon’ mean to you? No Carbon emissions in the environment. 3. Is there anything else we haven’t asked that you think is important relating to climate change? How it is affecting the animals. 4.Is your house energy efficient? Yes. 5.How is it energy efficient? I have a solar panel on my house.
