Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

We wanted to help displaced people. The earthquake in Turkey recently happened and there was loads of displaced people there. One of the girls in this group really felt hurt by this. We wanted to do something that would help displaced people in the future.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

From our research, we discovered that over 50,000 people have died from this earthquake. At least 2.4 million people displaced from this awful incident. Along with this at least 24 million people affected. This is so heart breaking.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero is Mohammed. He is a Turkish boy who has been effected by the earthquake. He is 21 years of age. He has 2 sisters and parents who have passed away due to the earthquake. He was living with his parents. He was a builder who was low paid so he is not wealthy enough to rebuild anything. He left school at 16 to go working. He is a single man.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

His current situation. We would want to improve his living situation, his financial situation and his family situation.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is an earthquake bed. This means that when the shaking would start it would fold up to save our hero. Under neath there would be enough food, water and supplies to last 10 days. It would be sturdy enough and made out of titanium so it wouldn’t fall. Unfortunately this would not be something we can make so we are going to design it. This would help our hero by keeping them safe before the damage of the earthquake would happen.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

What do you think of our idea ? How can we create this Big Idea without making it?
