Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

As a team we focused on the challenge of climate change as we are scared about our future generations ability to live a good life. We are focusing on Methane emissions particularly from a farming aspect as all our group come from a farming background and are worried about the affects this will have on our farms and farmers in the future especially farms close to the coast and low ground which may possibly be flooded and submerged by 2060.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

From our research we discovered that methane is a big issue for global warming. At the start of the challenge, we did not know much about methane and the effects it had on climate change. During the project we have learned that methane is a big factor for global warming. It can be caused by a lot of different activities such as landfills, oil reserves, coal mining and agricultural activities. We learned that a lot of methane emissions can be caused by cows and other agricultural activities.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero is Bradley Johnston the challenges they face are that by 2060 their farm will be submerged underwater the reason for this is the melting ice caps caused by methane emissions. We have learned about our hero that he is just like any normal farmer. Most coastal farmers in low lying ground will eventually face this problem of their farms possibly being flooded if we do not start to help prevent global warming. We learned that he faces struggles keeping his family alive as if the farm goes underwater he will not have any income.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

I would try to slow down the increasing level of global warming. This will help stop the ice caps from melting therefore stopping places from going underwater. This will solve all their problems with them losing their farm to the melting ice caps. This would greatly improve his life as it would let my hero live his life like he is now and not having to change his lifestyle.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is a website that tells farmers information about methane that helps farmers cut down on methane emissions this means that farmers will be able to cut down on methane emissions to slow down global warming and stop the ice caps from melting and putting low lying coastal areas underwater this will help our hero as he is a farmer he lives by the coast on a low lying area which will be underwater by 2060. This website will be easily accessible and have a lot of information about cutting down methane emissions.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

Are there any other ideas we should try and research. What do you think of our project is it a good idea.
