We picked this challenge because we want to learn more about how to help the planet. We are part of the Green School Committee and are very active in trying to prevent Climate Change. We are doing the Global Citizenship Marine Flag this year so water is a big part of our theme.
We found out that building a pond is a great way to "sequester carbon" from the air and this means trap a greenhouse gas in a safe place. They can do 20 to 30 times the amount of carbon trapping compared to woodland or grassland (biodiversityireland.ie). We learned that plants in a pond can do this too and also clean the pond at the same time.
Rosemary is a student worried about Climate Change. She would to help slow it down or stop it. She wants to learn more about what she can do to prevent it. Solutions we thought of are - research the topic, join the Green Schools Committee and build a pond as an addition to the garden.
Can you suggest any other ways we could help? Do you know how we could make our pond safe? What plants should we buy? Where can buy them? Thanks
