Our Idea

Why did your team choose to focus on this challenge?

We chose to focus on Mental Health because we have faced it ourselves and seen other people struggling with it. To find an effective way to help people cope with mental health issues such as depression, stress and anxiety. We chose to focus on this topic because we were able to relate to it due to the academic stress from junior certificate preparations. During our preparations we seek a place to escape from the stress, this is something we would like to develop on.

What have you learned about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We have learned about the different types of mental challenges. We learned a variety of different things about this challenge as mental health issues can come in different forms. We learned about the different ways to combat mental health issues such as talking to counsellors/ trusted ones, exercising, eating healthy and focusing on a hobby that you enjoy. But we decided to create a calming and peaceful environment where people can destress apart from the other methods.

Outline the specific problem you would like to solve for your Hero and two or three solutions you think would help.

Our Hero Breanna , she suffers from imposter syndrome. Our solution for this would be talking with a counselor in our clean, neat, positive and refreshing environment. A specific problem we would like to solve for our hero is her academic stress and burnouts. For a solution, as we mentioned before we wanted to create a peaceful and safe space for people who struggle with any mental health issues and to overcome their negative mental state. In our safe space, we would like to include plants, a mini waterfall, a cubicle where you can have time for yourself and play calming music, a section to meditate, a section where you can talk to someone such as a counsellor, and a mini library with positive books and a calming aroma. Everything they would see would project positive energy. Our aim is to provide as many people with a secure place where they don't have to worry about anything. The counsellors present would help them with what they are struggling with. For example: if they are struggling with being organised in school, the counsellors would help them with creating a scheduled plan that would provide a more structured school life.

Ask your Mentor anything.

Can you give us more advice, and do we have to make the place?
