Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

Its in Ireland, its a huge issue thats grown over the past few years. There is no sign of full solution that will solve the issue to the people of Ireland. We discussed it would be one of the main topics that we feel would be to the closest and main issue that Irish people face we hear multiple concerns from people that we know or people that we heard from the news. The more we raise this topic, there will be more people looking to solve this issue among the common people that live in Ireland. There is hope.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We learned more Irish people are affected by hidden poverty each year as here in Ireland there is a housing crisis that is continuing without a breaking point. I know now that hidden poverty has a link between the other topics in this project such as displaced people, people who develop mental issues. Multiple people have families that suffer. We had an idea that all countries suffer the similar issue but surprisingly the country here is one of the most expensive places to live in Europe. Most Irish people each year getting evicted. There is a lack of government support.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero can be very close to us in the same city we do not see it in reality. When you meet them and learn how they live then you learn truly how people experience hidden poverty. Its important to not just look online but look to the ones who are facing it the most right now. Ireland and Britain have a different kind of poverty than other countries, there is lack of support from the government and people there specifically Irish people. We learnt that older people getting evicted is common. Pricing affects young peoples choice of residence.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

I would want to have them warned about how they would live in a specific area. This could include how big their space could be, housing prices, accommodation, expenses on day to day life and to include, let them know if its fair or ridiculous to live a normal life as a citizen.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

We are thinking of a app that could improve and give them valuable information on how to live under financial crisis, whether they live in a city with high expenses educating them to learn where its most suitable to live and affordability. We initially thought that we could use our first idea to bring it to the government.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

We would like to understand more about the financial loss of hidden poverty in people of Ireland and how this stopped their children's education.
