Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

Hidden poverty is an important topic to highlight because it sheds light on the reality of poverty that is not always visible to the naked eye. Hidden poverty refers to individuals and families who are living below the poverty line, but don’t show any outward signs of their financial struggles. This could be due to factors such as living in different areas or having access to credit that allows them to maintain a facade of financial stability. Writing about hidden poverty can help raise awareness about the issue and challenge stereotypes about hidden poverty.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

From our research we discovered that hidden poverty affects many more people than we assumed. Hidden poverty by virtue if its existence means that it isn't very visible and often happens in plain sight going unnoticed. Many people in hidden poverty go to school or work with others who have no idea of their condition. It is up to us to bring awareness of hidden poverty to those in more privileged situations and find help.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero's name is Katelyn she faces poverty which results in struggling to support her kids, as she doesn't have enough money to buy necessities like clothes and food. She struggles to pay rent and bills. The reason for this is because she works on minimum wage and she spends most of her money on her children she finds hard to get a high-paying job due to her lack of education because she dropped out of secondary school. She is constantly stressed and this is beginning to affect her physical and mental health.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

One thing we would we would improve about her situation. Would be providing her with a higher paying job so she can go to college and pay her tuition.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One possible solution we have been considering would be to create a marketplace which would provide essential items such as food, clothing and toiletries for a low price or even free. This would improve many people’s living standards as it would provide them with the essential items to support themselves as well as others who are in the same situation.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

Do you feel that it is feasible to develop an app in this timeframe. Do you feel that this app will help get rid of poverty.
