We chose this challenge as we both understand how financially difficult the pandemic lockdown for people and also how expensive physiotherapy is.So we decided as a team that we wanted to help people affordably and efficiently rehabilitate themselves from home.
Before researching the challenge we didn’t realize just how many people across Ireland are living in actual poverty due to the cost of living, which is like 20% of the population. That figure absolutely astounded us as we had no idea how many people were actually living in poverty.
Our hero is Maura Rothery, a special needs assistance in our school. We learnt that she suffered with shoulder complications in the past and had to rehabilitate herself from home as at the time she couldn’t afford the cost of a physiotherapist.
If we could improve one thing for her we would love to help make her home rehabilitation journey easier and affordable.
We think that we are going to create a shoulder pulley device, that includes a microbit to help the user to keep track of their exercise routines. The device will hang from any sized door.We have created a digital image of what we hope our device will look like.
If you have any feedback or tips to further this project please do reach out to us.Also do you think this a viable product?
