We read all of the challenge categories and we discussed them as a team. We found we were most interested in Climate Change and we discovered that some of our teammates experience eco-anxiety about this issue. We had a vote and Climate Change was the winner. We feel we can make a big difference to this issue with our Big Idea.
From our research we discovered that, Climate change is having a negative impact on people's wellbeing. We also learned that as a result of climate change natural habitats are being destroyed. Climate change is impacting on biodiversity, this reduces the ability of the earth to maintain clean air, water and provide food and a habitat for all creatures. We learned that there is a need for safe havens for nature. The population of insects have plummeted by 75% in the last 25 years. Insect armageddon is upon us and we need to take action.
Our hero is the Bee, we've called him Brian Bee. The challenges facing our hero is that he could be extinct in the future. The reasons for this are: the use of pesticides, changes in their environment so they do not have enough plants to pollinate, people not allowing wild flowers to grow.
We could provide a wildflower garden and some safe huts for bees to live in.
Our idea for a solution is to transform the unused space outside our classroom prefab into a habitat for bees, birds and insects. We plan to plant a wildflower garden and to have a bug motel and a dead hedge. We also want to include a mindfulness seating area for people to sit and be at one with nature.
What kind of flowers should be plant to attract bees?
