Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

We feel the topic of hidden poverty isn’t discussed as much as the other topics and is equally if not more important to be discussed in order to find solutions.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We didn’t know that a high percentage of people in Ireland are experiencing it

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero is Rachel O’Conner, who is a stay at home mother of small children. We’ve learned about the challenges she faces, whether that’s physical, financial or emotional, such as she has constant anxiety over her financial status, and that she only spends money on essentials and can’t afford anything else. Our hero has helped us realize the impact that hidden poverty can have on people’s lives.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

If we could improve one thing for Rachel we would offer her husband a well paying job.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is a free, accessible lunch service in low income areas for people to use, so that they don’t have to worry about buying food, for example for their child’s school lunch. Did you know that 1 in 5 kids don’t have access to a ready source of food? Not only is it free, the food would be healthy, including vegan and gluten-free food. This service will try it’s best to cater for everyone.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

How will you assist or help us? How will we be in contact with you, is it online? Or in person?
