Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

We chose to focus on climate change because it is a really big and important issue right now. We hear a lot about it and we are worried about the earths future. We wanted to make a difference even if it’s only small it has an impact. It is relevant to everyone today so we really wanted to focus on solving and helping with this challenge.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We had a lot of knowledge on climate change before but kept learning new stuff. The last 7 years have been the warmest on record and we know it’s only going to get worse that’s why we wanted to focus on this. We also learned more than a million species are at risk of extinction this is really worrying. Climate change could be irreversible by 2030 this really made us sure we wanted to do this topic.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our hero is Sadbh Murphy she represents your average young person in Ireland. The challenges she faces are feeling doomed and hopeless because of climate change. She feels like nothing she does is enough. She is vegan and doing everything she can but all she sees is negatives and how it’s too far gone. She has anxiety about the planet. Because of all the terrible facts she hears.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

We want to improve her attitude and how she feels towards the planet. We want her to feel hope and that the things she does do make a difference. We want her to spread a positive attitude towards improving this climate crisis.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solutions we are considering is a website (digital space) where people can find information about climate change and how they can help in a non scare mongering way. It will have the progress we have made towards addressing the climate crisis. It will have little things that people can do or big things whichever you feel like you can do it’s something.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

Do you think this idea is good and useful? What can we do to improve our idea? (Flearning) Is there a need for our idea?
