Why did your team choose to focus on this challenge?We chose this topic because we want to help people who are different, give them the support they need and to help them feel included in society. Some people who are different do not get treated respectfully enough we think.
What have you learned about the challenge that you didn't know before?
We learned that not everyone is the same and that some people may need more assistance. When something is being designed it should be accessible to everyone - the design is crucial. For example add sound for some one who is visually impaired, a path without steps for wheelchairs, etc.
Outline the specific problem you would like to solve for your Hero and two or three solutions you think would help.
Our problem is how to make our pond safe for someone who is visually impaired, to help them navigate safely around it. We could play relaxing music around the area to make sure they know they are close to it. We could design a braille description of the pond area to inform people. We could have a safety rail around the pond to guide people around it. We could make our paths smooth and level leading to it. A nice statue or fountain could be a warning sound too and a sensory aid. Scented plants could also enhance the area.
