Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

We as a team chose to focus on this challenge as we know people who suffer with their Mental Health and want to help them.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

From our research we discovered that suicide prevention hotlines can sometimes be too slow or be too busy.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

Our Hero is Andrew and the challenge that he faces is that he struggles with his mental health. He suffers from depression and anxiety. He finds hotlines to be always too busy when he needs them and therefore would like a backup option that he can use when he is struggling.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

If we could improve one thing for our Hero it would be to meet his needs and come up with another option for people when hotlines are too busy.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is creating an app that would be used as a backup for when hotlines become too busy. It would be for everyone but would focus in on suicide awareness and self-harm. The aim would be to get people talking and help them get back on the right track to recovery. You would be able to call, text or set up a home appointment. Everything would be confidential. It would be slightly different from a hotline because there would be more options for people and they would get to decide themselves how much help they receive.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

Any feedback would be much appreciated thank you.
