Why as a team did you choose to focus on this challenge?

As a team we chose Mental health because in our society today mental health is very important not even just for peace with your brain but to do well in school and your hobbies, when the class was asked what challenge they thought was most important , all of the class said mental health.

What do you know now about the challenge that you didn't know before?

We now know how big of a problem mental health is in ireland. It is frustrating to see that people don’t get enough help. When we started the big idea we seen that 1 in 3 people will have a mental health issue by the age of 13 and 1 in 2 by the age of 24. When we surveyed our ty class over 70% chose mental health as the most concerning issue. We are our hero , my school community and all of us who navigate a difficult day.

What have you learnt about your Hero?

We learned many people cared about mental health , and we realised how many people suffer from stress and anxiety and need a space to just be at peace.

If you could improve one thing for your Hero what would that be?

Our hero is the people in our school. The challenges they face are stress and anxiety and worrying about certain personal, school , work and many other problems The reason for this is not having time to breathe and think. We would like to create a room for students , teachers , caretakers , that would allow them to ease there mind for a few minutes.

Do you have any ideas for a potential solution? No matter how raw, share them with your Mentors for feedback.

One solution we are considering is a space or room to relax. • This means a space for students to relax. • Mental health will be recognised in our school and facilities provided to help.

Ask your Mentor anything …. This is a chance to ask your Mentors a direct question relating to your Big Idea.

Do you know how we could prevent students from taking advantage if the room ? What kind of funding streams are available to support this project or do you have any good examples of working spaces .
