These fun, creative thinking activities can be used before the programme kicks off!
Students learn about what is involved in the programme. Students do a survey to identify the five challenges they’ll be choosing from this year.
Students learn about the creative process using the Double Diamond framework which contains for distinct stages (discover, define, develop and deliver).
Students choose one of the five challenge areas that they are most interested in.
Students think about the challenges and start to narrow down to specific areas they would like to focus on.
Students focus more narrowly on an area of the challenge they would like to solve.
Students are given a research scavenger hunt to carry out.
Students create a clear problem statement to focus on
Students create a hero profile - a visualisation of a person who deals with the problem they are trying to solve.
This is a flexible workshop to catch up on the programme if necessary. The workshop presentation also includes a variety of creative thinking activities that can be used during the class.
Students use a brainstorming technique to think of potential solutions.
Students consider their solutions in the context of Universal Design, which means designing something that can be used by all people, regardless of their ability.
Students will share details of their initial B!G Idea with their mentors.
Students relate their B!G Ideas to SDGs.
Students learn about growth mindset and reflect on their own mindsets.
Students learn how to give and receive constructive feedback.
Students are guided through an activity to help them process feedback from their mentors.
Students learn about the importance of prototyping in the creative process and are guided through different kinds of prototype. They decide what kind of prototype they are going to make and plan their resources for the next workshop.
Students create at least one prototype.
Student teams display their prototypes for their classmates to provide feedback. This is an opportunity to invite other members of the school body to come and view the students’ work and provide feedback.
Students review their idea based on specific criteria provided in the lesson.
Students learn about the requirements of the final B!G Idea poster and video, and prepare to create them in the next two workshops.

Students choose from several reflection activities to look back on their B!G Idea Journey.
